What to move first when you cannot move everything
In a genuine emergency there is rarely time to move a whole home properly, so it helps to have an order rather than working room by room. Documents come first: passports, tenancy papers, insurance details, anything with a signature on it. Medication and anything medical comes next, along with chargers and the devices they belong to.
Then keys and paperwork for other things you own, because a lost set of car keys turns one problem into two. Valuables and irreplaceable items follow, and irreplaceable is not the same as expensive. Photographs, hard drives and things belonging to children usually matter more than the television.
Bulk furniture comes last, and it is the part that can be recovered later if the day runs out. Bags are fine. A bin liner of clothes loads faster than an unpacked wardrobe, and on an emergency move speed is the thing you are buying.
When there is no new address yet
Emergency moves often start before the next address exists. That is a normal situation and it changes the shape of the job rather than preventing it. Belongings can go into storage and come out in a second leg once you know where you are going, which means the first move is a collection rather than a delivery.
Two things are worth deciding before the crew arrives. The first is what you need with you in the meantime, because anything that goes into storage is genuinely gone until the second leg. Pack that separately and keep it out of the van. The second is cover.
Storage and transit are handled differently, so if what you are moving is worth more than the standard included amount, say so at the point of booking rather than afterwards.
