What changes about access at the weekend
The van and the crew are the same on a Saturday. The buildings and the streets are not, and that is where weekend moves go wrong. Council offices are closed, so a parking suspension or a dispensation has to be applied for during the week beforehand; it cannot be sorted out on the morning.
Managed blocks often run reduced concierge hours, and in some buildings the goods lift is locked at the weekend or needs booking through an office that only answers on weekdays. Residential streets are fuller, because the cars that leave for work on a Tuesday are still there on a Sunday.
On the other side, town centres and business districts are far quieter, loading bays are usually free, and the drive between two addresses is faster than it would be at nine on a weekday morning. The practical rule is that weekends favour moves where the constraint is traffic, and weekday slots favour moves where the constraint is a building.
Planning a Saturday move around a Friday completion
Most house sales complete on a Friday, which is exactly why Saturday is the most requested moving day in the country. Completing on Friday and moving on Saturday gives you something a same-day move cannot: a full evening to get keys, check the property, find the stopcock and the meters, and decide which room everything is going into.
It also means the van is not sitting outside waiting on a solicitor. There are two things to get right. Book the Saturday slot before the Friday completion is confirmed rather than after it, because Saturday slots go first and a fortnight's notice is normal.
And make sure someone can accept keys on the Friday, since a Saturday move against keys collected on Monday is not a move at all. If both ends are rented rather than bought, the same logic applies to checkout and check-in times, which rarely line up neatly.

How far in advance should I book a weekend removal?
