Delivery of Fridge Freezer Across the UK

This is one of the most common questions we get asked about fridge freezer transport.

The short answer is: you should avoid it wherever possible.

Fridge freezers contain compressor oil inside the sealed refrigerant system.

When you lay a fridge freezer on its side, that oil can migrate into the refrigerant tubes. If you then plug in the appliance too soon after standing it upright again, the oil can damage the compressor. This is a costly repair, and in many cases it means writing off the appliance entirely.

If laying a fridge freezer down is unavoidable for transport, the general rule is to stand it upright for at least the same number of hours it spent on its side before switching it on.

Some manufacturers recommend waiting 24 hours regardless. Always check your appliance's manual for the specific guidance.
