Frequently Asked Questions
You need a valid UK driving licence, proof of hire and reward insurance, and your vehicle's MOT certificate plus V5C logbook. If your van is leased or on finance, a letter confirming permission for courier use is also required. Having all documents ready before you apply speeds up approval significantly.
Most drivers complete onboarding and receive account approval within 3 to 5 working days. The DBS background check typically returns within 1 to 3 working days. Document verification usually takes 24 to 48 hours. Submitting clear, complete documents at the start avoids delays and keeps the process on the faster end of that timeline.
You must supply your own vehicle. Giant Van does not provide vans. Any size van is acceptable, from a small transit to a Luton, as long as it is roadworthy and covered by valid hire and reward insurance. Owner-drivers already have the key asset — we supply the jobs.
Giant Van accepts drivers with up to 6 penalty points on their licence. Applications with DR (drink-related) or IN (insurance-related) endorsements cannot be approved. All other standard endorsements are assessed on a case-by-case basis during the onboarding review.
Three types of cover are required. Hire and reward insurance is a legal requirement for any paid courier work — standard van insurance does not cover commercial deliveries. Goods in transit insurance protects items you carry against loss or damage. Public liability insurance is strongly recommended to cover third-party injury or property claims.
There are no required hours and no fixed shift requirements. You choose when and how often to accept jobs. Some drivers work a few hours per week around other commitments. Others operate as full-time self-employed couriers. You set your own schedule from day one.
Payments are made weekly, direct to your UK bank account. There is no invoicing, no chasing, and no payment apps to set up. Earnings from jobs completed each week are processed automatically and paid on the same day each week. You can track your earnings in the driver app at any time.
Giant Van operates nationwide, so you can accept jobs anywhere in the UK after your account goes live. Many drivers focus on a local area to reduce travel time. Others take on long-distance courier jobs across the country. There are no geographic restrictions — the choice is entirely yours.
