What we cannot move
We move the contents of a student room or flat, but a few items are prohibited under our terms of service. Flag anything unusual when you book.
- Hazardous materials, flammable liquids and gases
- Illegal substances, firearms and stolen goods
- Perishable goods, unless agreed in advance
- Live animals — pets travel with you, not in the van
Halls, stairs and parking
Student accommodation often means upper floors and restricted parking, so we price access into the quote rather than add it on the day.
- Stairs are charged from £28 a flight above the ground floor; a working lift reduces the cost
- Difficult parking or a permit zone adds £30
- A long carry over 30 metres from the door adds £25
- Tell us about access at both ends when you book so the quote is right first time
Timing and arrival windows
You book a date and a time slot, and your driver arrives within an agreed arrival window rather than to the exact minute.

Changes and cancellations
Plans change. Our cancellation terms are the same for every booking and there is never an admin or processing fee on top.

- Between 24 and 48 hours before, you receive a 50% refund

Can you move during freshers week?
Yes, we cover freshers week moves across the UK. September is our busiest period, so book 2–3 weeks ahead to secure your preferred date and time slot. Early morning and midweek slots tend to have the best availability.
What student ID is accepted?
We accept NUS cards, TOTUM cards, university student cards with the current academic year, and acceptance letters with photo ID for freshers who don't have their cards yet.
Can I book a same-day student removal?
Yes, subject to availability. Same-day bookings are possible but we recommend booking at least a few days ahead, especially during September and June when demand is highest.
Do you cover university removals between cities?
Yes. Our university removals service covers inter-city moves across the whole of the UK. Moving from Manchester to London or Edinburgh to Bristol? Giant Van handles it all. Inter-city student moves typically cost £250–£500 depending on distance and volume.
Do you move to storage facilities?
Absolutely. We transport to any UK storage provider. Many students use us for summer storage runs when they don't want to ship everything home. Storage runs start from £45.
Can my housemates share a booking?
Yes. If you're all moving from the same property, book one larger van and split the cost between you. It's cheaper than multiple separate bookings and far more efficient.
How early should I book for September or June?
For September and June moves, book 2–3 weeks ahead where possible. The first week of term and the final fortnight of June fill up fast. The sooner you book, the more time slots you'll have to choose from.
What happens if something gets damaged?
Basic insurance is included with every booking. Report any damage to the driver immediately and contact our help centre. Premium insurance is available if you're moving high-value items.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
You can reschedule up to 24 hours before your booking at no charge. Cancellations within 24 hours may incur a fee. Check our terms for full details.
Do you help with packing?
We offer optional packing services at an additional cost. Our team can supply boxes and packing materials, or pack everything for you before the move.
