Knowing how to pack a TV for moving correctly can be the difference between a perfect screen and a cracked panel.
Even a short journey can cause damage if the television is not secured properly. Follow these steps before your Giant Van driver arrives.
Use the original box if you have it.
Manufacturers design TV boxes with custom foam inserts that fit the exact model. If you kept the box, use it. Slide the TV in carefully with the screen facing up or as directed by the insert markings.
If you no longer have the box:
1.
Gather materials first. You need bubble wrap, packing foam or moving blankets, packing tape, cardboard sheets and cable ties. 2. Remove cables and accessories. Detach the power cable, HDMI leads and any other cables. Coil them and secure with cable ties. Pack them separately in a labelled bag. 3. Remove the stand if possible. Most TV stands twist off or unscrew. Removing the stand reduces the risk of it snapping during transport. 4. Wrap the screen. Lay the TV face-down on a clean blanket. Wrap bubble wrap around the entire screen at least twice. Pay extra attention to the corners, which are the most vulnerable points. 5. Add cardboard protection. Cut two pieces of cardboard slightly larger than the screen and tape them over both sides for a rigid outer layer. 6. Secure with tape. Use good-quality packing tape to hold everything in place. Do not apply tape directly to the TV itself. 7. Label the package clearly. Write "FRAGILE - SCREEN" and "THIS SIDE UP" on all four sides.

How to Transport a TV Safely in a Van
9 Tips
Modern flat-screen televisions should never be transported flat. This is one of the most common mistakes people make, and it causes internal panel damage that may not show up immediately.
The screen is engineered to bear load in that orientation. Laying it flat puts pressure on the panel from its own weight, which can crack or damage the internal layers.
TVs are always stood on their long edge in our vans. We use non-slip matting on the van floor to prevent sliding.
We use adjustable load straps to hold the TV against the van wall. This stops any movement during braking or cornering. A television that moves even a small distance in a van can hit a surface and crack.
Wherever the TV touches the van, we place foam or moving blankets. This prevents vibration damage and surface scratches.
We do not allow other items to rest against a TV in transit. Even a light box can cause a pressure crack on a thin OLED panel.
We do not transport televisions in extreme cold or heat without acclimatisation time. Sudden temperature changes can cause condensation inside the screen.
A car boot is rarely adequate for anything larger than 40 inches. Saloon car boots also make it impossible to carry the set upright, which defeats the purpose entirely.
