Shipping an engine is not the same as posting a parcel. Engines are heavy, oily, and awkward to handle. The wrong van, the wrong straps, or the wrong driver can result in a cracked block, a damaged sump, or a seized unit that was fine when it left. Giant Van operates a dedicated engine courier service built for exactly this kind of freight. We collect from garages, breakers yards, engine rebuilders, and private addresses across the UK. We deliver to the same. Call us on 020 3129 6180 to get a quote or book a same-day slot.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are available on request. We collect from and deliver to garages, breakers yards, private addresses, trade suppliers, and engine rebuilders. Call 020 3129 6180 to check availability in your specific area and to get a fixed-price quote for your engine shipment.
Understanding the property mix helps us plan the right crew size, van, and equipment for your move.
An engine courier is a specialist freight service that collects and delivers vehicle engines safely, using vehicles and equipment suited to heavy, irregularly shaped loads. A standard courier network is designed for boxes. Engines do not come in boxes. A bare petrol or diesel engine can weigh anywhere from 80 kg for a small hatchback unit up to 400 kg or more for a V8 or commercial truck block. They leak oil, they have protruding ancillaries, and they need to be secured on pallets or engine stands to prevent movement in transit.
At Giant Van, our engine courier service covers passenger car engines, van and light commercial engines, motorcycle engines, and classic or historic vehicle units. We also ship gearboxes, transfer boxes, differentials, and complete drivetrain assemblies when booked as a combined load. If you are sending an engine with its ancillaries still attached, such as the alternator, starter motor, or exhaust manifold, tell us when you book so we can account for the extra dimensions and weight.
The service operates point to point. We collect from wherever the engine is located, whether that is on a workshop floor, a pallet in a breakers yard, or sitting in the back of a trailer. We deliver directly to the destination address. There are no depot handoffs, no rehandling, and no third-party carriers involved in the chain.
Engine courier prices depend on three main factors: the weight and size of the unit, the distance between collection and delivery, and the service level you need.
A small four-cylinder engine going from one side of London to the other will cost considerably less than a V6 block travelling from Cornwall to Scotland.
As a general guide, short-haul engine deliveries within a major city or region typically start from around £60 to £120.
Cross-country deliveries for heavier units can range from £150 to £350 or more depending on weight and access at both ends. Same-day and urgent bookings carry a premium, usually 25 to 50 percent above the standard rate. If a crane, forklift, or tail-lift is required at either address, this needs to be flagged at the point of booking so we can send the right vehicle.
We charge based on actual weight and dimensions, not an estimated average.
When you call , we will ask for the engine make, model, approximate weight, and any pallet or crating details. We then give you a fixed price with no hidden fuel levies or rural surcharges added afterwards. All quotes include transit insurance up to a stated value. If your engine is worth more, we offer declared value cover that can be added to any booking at a straightforward per-hundred-pounds rate.
Prices vary by weight, distance, and service level. Short-haul deliveries within a city or region typically start from £60 to £120 for engines up to 150 kg. Cross-country jobs for heavier units start from £150 and can reach £350 or above for large commercial or performance engines. Same-day bookings carry a 25 to 50 percent premium. Two-person crews, tail-lift vehicles, and declared value cover are available as add-ons. All quotes are fixed with no post-collection adjustments. Call 020 3129 6180 for an accurate quote based on your specific engine and route.
All prices include a fully insured crew, van, and moving blankets. Packing services available as add-ons.
Get your exact priceOur drivers arrive ready to load, but they cannot wait while you drain fluids or locate a pallet.
Oil and coolant that move around in transit can seep past gaskets or seals that were fine when the engine was static. Most courier services, including ours, require engines to be as dry as reasonably possible before loading. A damp cloth wipe is not enough. Run the engine until it is fully warm if possible, then let it cool and drain. Pack a sealed bag with any remaining fluids for the recipient if needed.
A loose engine sitting on cardboard is a safety hazard and a damage risk. Use a pallet rated to at least 1.5 times the engine weight. Strap the engine to the pallet using ratchet straps at multiple points. If the engine has a sump that protrudes below the block, use timber battens to raise the pallet slightly so the sump does not bear the load.
Wrap oil cooler pipes, fuel rails, and any sensors or injectors with bubble wrap or foam. Remove any parts that stick out more than 150 mm beyond the main block where possible. Label the pallet with the destination address, your contact number, and the engine make and capacity. Take photos before our driver arrives as a record of condition at the point of collection.
Enter your collection and delivery addresses, select your property size, and list any large items. See a fixed price in under 60 seconds.
Pick a date and time slot that works for you. Add packing materials or extra helpers if you need them.
A fully insured crew arrives on time, wraps and loads your belongings, and delivers everything to your new home.

When you book an engine courier with Giant Van, the following is included as standard in every job.
Door-to-door collection and delivery.
We come to your address.
You do not need to drop the engine at a depot or arrange your own transport to a collection point.
Our driver handles loading at the origin and unloading at the destination, provided appropriate equipment is in place at both ends.
For large engines above 150 kg, we recommend having at least two people available at both ends or notifying us in advance so we can send a two-person crew.
Full GPS tracking.
Every Giant Van vehicle carries live tracking.
You can follow your engine from collection to delivery via a link we send you by text or email.
There are no manual check-in calls required.
If there is a delay on route due to traffic or access issues, our operations team will contact you proactively.
Fixed-price quoting.
The price we quote before collection is the price you pay.
We do not add weight adjustments or fuel surcharges after the fact.
If the actual weight differs significantly from what was quoted, we will discuss it with you before collection rather than surprising you with an invoice.
Transit insurance at no extra charge.
All engines travel with standard transit insurance included.
For engines with a declared value above £1,000, we offer enhanced declared value cover as an add-on.
Ask when you call.
Specialist loading equipment.

Here is the exact process from first contact to confirmed collection.
Give us the engine make, model year, estimated weight, pallet dimensions if already prepared, and your collection and delivery postcodes. Tell us whether there is step-free access at both addresses and whether a forklift or crane is available or required.
We aim to provide quotes within minutes during business hours. For large or unusual loads, we may ask for photographs before confirming price. If the quote works for you, we confirm the booking reference and assign a driver.
Use the preparation checklist above. Make sure fluids are drained, the engine is palletised and strapped, and vulnerable components are protected. Have the pallet in an accessible location before the driver arrives.
You sign the collection manifest confirming the condition of the engine at the point of handover. We photograph the load before departure. You receive a tracking link within minutes.
The UK has a large and active market for second-hand and reconditioned engines.
Breakers yards ship engines to garages daily. Engine rebuilders dispatch fully reconditioned units to trade customers and private buyers. Classic car restorers source period-correct engines from across the country. All of these transactions need a reliable engine courier in between.
The standard parcel courier network is not designed for this.
Carriers such as DPD, DHL, and Parcelforce have weight limits and packaging requirements that exclude most engine shipments. Their depot-based networks involve multiple rehandling points, each one a potential damage event for a heavy and irregularly shaped item. When engines go through standard parcel networks, damage claims are common and difficult to resolve.
Specialist freight services handle engines every day.
In the UK, the engine shipping market is served by a mix of specialist van couriers, pallet networks, and man-and-van services. Pallet networks can handle heavier units but often involve depot-to-depot legs with limited delivery windows. Man-and-van services lack tracking, insurance, and the specialist equipment needed to handle engine weight safely.
Giant Van sits in the position where specialist equipment, direct delivery, GPS tracking, and fixed pricing come together.
We work with independent garages, main dealers, trade parts suppliers, DVLA-registered breakers, and private buyers who have found an engine online and need it moved. Our vehicles operate across Greater London, the South East, the Midlands, and across the rest of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland bookings are available on request.
Booked online in under a minute and the crew turned up right on time. Everything was wrapped carefully and nothing was damaged. Genuinely the easiest move I've had.
The quote I got online was exactly what I paid. No hidden fees, no extra charges on the day. The two-man crew were professional, fast, and really friendly.
Our original movers cancelled last minute. Giant Van had a crew available the same day. They handled a full 2-bed flat and had us settled in by evening.

Specialist Collection and Delivery Across the UK Operations, Giant Van Driver
There are several reasons customers come back to Giant Van for engine courier work rather than using a general freight comparison site.
We understand the load. Our drivers know what an engine looks like, how it behaves in transit, and what happens when strapping fails. We have seen the results of poorly secured engines. We know which ancillaries are fragile and which end to put down first. This knowledge is built into how we handle every collection.
We own the chain. No third-party carriers. No depot handoffs. The driver who collects from you is the driver who delivers to the recipient. This matters enormously when something goes wrong. There is no pointing between carriers, no lost shipment blame game, and no week-long claim investigation.
We price fairly. Engine courier quotes on comparison sites often come back low and then climb after collection once the actual weight and dimensions are measured. We ask the right questions upfront and give you a price that holds.
We cover the whole job. Collection, loading, transit, tracking, unloading, delivery confirmation. Everything is handled. You do not need to organise a separate tail-lift vehicle or arrange a crew to help load. We bring what we need.
We are reachable. Call and speak to someone who knows the job. Not a chatbot, not an offshore call centre. The people answering know the vehicles, the drivers, and the routes.

UK moving demand follows seasonal patterns. Off-peak months typically offer lower prices and more crew availability.
The downside is that engines go through multiple depot handling points, each staffed by workers who have no specific training in handling automotive components. Damage rates on pallet networks for heavy, protruding items are higher than the headline figures suggest. You also get a delivery window rather than a specific time, which is inconvenient when a garage or workshop is waiting.
Transit insurance is often minimal or non-existent on informal bookings. If the engine is damaged or the driver is involved in an accident, your recourse is limited. Pricing can seem attractive until something goes wrong.
A standard car boot is not adequate. You would need a Transit-size panel van, a working pallet jack or engine hoist at both ends, and confidence in your strapping. The hidden cost is your time and the risk of injury or vehicle damage.
The price difference between a specialist and a pallet network is usually small relative to the value of the engine being moved. For any engine worth more than £200, the specialist route is the right choice.
Giant Van has handled engine courier jobs for independent garages, engine rebuilders, classic car specialists, and trade buyers across the UK.
Our understanding of how engines behave in transit, what preparation they need, and what equipment is required to handle them safely is built into every booking we take.
