Start packing two weeks before your moving date.

Begin with rooms you use least. Guest bedrooms, lofts, and garages contain items you will not miss during the final fortnight. Leave kitchens and bathrooms until the last two days.

Pack one room at a time.

Mixing rooms in a single box creates confusion at the other end. Each box should contain items from one space only. Mark the destination room clearly on the outside.

Heavy items go at the bottom of every box.

Lighter items sit on top. This prevents crushing and keeps boxes stable when stacked in the van. Our drivers stack boxes three or four high during transit, so a poorly packed box near the bottom puts everything above it at risk.

Wrap plates individually and stand them on edge inside the box.

Plates are stronger on their sides than lying flat. Fill remaining space with crumpled paper. Wine glasses need individual wrapping plus a cardboard divider between each one.

Use original packaging for electronics whenever possible.

If you kept the box your TV came in, use it. The foam inserts are designed to absorb exactly the right amount of shock. No amount of bubble wrap matches purpose-built packaging.

Seal every box with proper packing tape.

Masking tape and sellotape do not hold under the weight of stacked boxes. Run tape along the bottom seam and across both edges for maximum strength. Our team supplies packing tape as standard with every Leeds booking.

Do not forget an essentials box.

Pack a kettle, mugs, tea bags, toilet roll, phone chargers, and basic toiletries in a clearly marked box. This stays with you during the move and opens first at your new home.
