Oldham has some road and parking challenges that catch student movers out every year.

Knowing them before moving day saves time and avoids fines.

Rochdale Road (A671) and Henshaw Street in the OL1 town centre area have double yellow lines in operation from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.

If your student flat is on or off these routes, you need to time arrival before 8am or after 6pm to load kerbside without a penalty notice. Alternatively, we can use side streets such as Clegg Street or Horsedge Street to stage the van.

Werneth, in the north of OL1, has a high density of terraced housing built in the 1880s and 1890s.

Streets like Featherstall Road North and Hartley Street are narrow. Two vans cannot pass each other without one mounting the pavement. We send a single van rather than two smaller trips where possible to avoid blocking the road.

Oldham Mumps, near the Metrolink stop at the bottom of Yorkshire Street, has bus lane restrictions in operation on the A62 approach during morning and evening peak hours (7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm).

We route around this via the Medlock Street junction when collecting from student flats in that area.

Shaw and Royton are easier.

Most residential streets in OL2 have unrestricted parking and wider carriageways. We regularly load and unload on streets like Linney Lane in Shaw and Heyside Road in Royton with no access issues.
