The city centre pedestrianisation zone covers most of the area within the old Roman walls, including St Peter's Street, The Friars, and the area immediately around Canterbury Cathedral. Heavy goods vehicles and vans over a certain length face height and width barriers on approach roads including Burgate and Castle Street.
