St Albans has some access quirks that catch removals companies off guard.

The city centre around St Peter's Street and Chequer Street operates controlled parking zones Monday to Saturday.

On weekends, parking restrictions ease slightly, but double yellow lines on Upper Lattimore Road and Victoria Street still apply. For properties here, we pre-book a temporary parking suspension through Hertfordshire County Council at least 48 hours in advance. This costs between £55 and £95 depending on the duration and location.

Fleetville, covering postcodes AL1 2 and AL1 3, has largely unrestricted residential streets, but some terraces on Camp Road and Beaconsfield Road have very narrow frontages.

Our 3.5-tonne Luton vans fit comfortably on both. For larger loads we use a smaller feeder vehicle to shuttle items to the main lorry parked on the wider section of the road.

In Marshalswick, postcodes AL1 4, newer estate roads are generous in width but bollards on the junction of Sherwood Avenue restrict larger vehicles.

We park on Sandpit Lane and carry from there when needed.

London Colney, covering AL2 1, has good access via the A414 but the residential streets off Waterside are narrow near the River Colne.

We always do a pre-move drive-by for larger jobs in this area.

The Ver Valley route in to Redbourn (AL3 7) via the B487 is clear for our standard Luton vans.

The Roman road layout around King Harry Lane means some properties here have restricted frontages. Our crews know which routes work for larger vehicles.

AL4 covers Marshalswick South, Sandridge, and Wheathampstead.
