Since 1 January 2021, moving household goods from the UK to Spain requires customs declaration at both the UK export border and the Spanish import side.
For personal effects being imported by someone establishing their primary residence in Spain, a Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief applies — this exempts your goods from import VAT and customs duty, but you must apply before your goods leave the UK.
You'll need your NIE number (Spanish tax ID), proof of your new Spanish address, and evidence that you've been resident in the UK for at least 12 months.
Goods must have been owned for at least six months prior to the move.
