Buying a piano from a dealer in Newcastle, Leeds, or London?

A small amount of preparation on your end makes the move quicker and reduces risk to the instrument.

Here is what we recommend before our crew arrives.

Clear a path from the piano to the front door.

Remove any rugs, furniture, or plant pots that sit between the instrument and the exit point. If there are narrow internal doors on the route, open them fully and check for door stops that might catch. In older Sunderland terraces, internal doors often swing into hallways and reduce the available width to as little as 65 cm.

If your piano has a lid, lock it or tape it securely with soft packaging tape that will not mark the finish.

If there is a music rack, remove it and wrap it separately. These pieces can shift during transit and damage the lacquer if left loose. Candleholders on older uprights should also come off.

Make sure someone is at the delivery address when we arrive.

We need to know exactly where the piano is going within the room. Once a grand piano is placed and the legs are fitted, repositioning it even half a metre takes the whole crew again.

If the property is rented and in one of Sunderland's student accommodation buildings near the University of Sunderland off Chester Road, SR1, confirm with your landlord or accommodation manager that instrument moves are permitted.

Some managed buildings have specific moving hours, usually 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays, and charge for lift use. We can work around these restrictions if we know about them ahead of time.
